About Me
With 20+ years in IT and education: from technical project and operations management, product ownership, full-stack development, and infrastructure, to mentorship and curriculum design (since 2001)
Yep, that's me.
Ohayo, I'm Abby (@TheNocturnalDevGypsy)
I'm a Technical Project and Operations Manager, Product Owner, Technical Writer, old-school Full-Stack Developer, and currently on hiatus as a CS/IT Assistant Professor. I also take on commissioned graphic design projects for branding and social media, and occasionally handle virtual assistant tasks. I've worked with Lazada Group (under Alibaba Group) and a few startups around Southeast Asia, leading projects in app development, infrastructure, and product management. Outside the tech industry, I've also taught Computer Science and IT subjects and helped modernize CS/IT curricula. I eventually co-founded two companies, bloki.me and Strato Data Solutions, focused on web, infrastructure, and product solutions.
In my free time, I keep learning and exploring new ideas in programming, project management, and generative AI through online courses and personal experiments. I actively maintain several of my open-source projects, contribute to others when I can, and currently building three new ones: a static site generator, a crypto font library, and a "link-in-bio" CMS. When time allows, I also enjoy tinkering with my personal website, it's my digital playground!
I'm currently based in Asia and have worked across the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong. My work has also taken me to Tokyo, Amsterdam, California, Bali and Moscow for short assignments. Since April 2017, I've been settled in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and since May 2024, I've been dividing my time between there and Watthana, Bangkok, Thailand. I'm now preparing to relocate to Lisbon, Portugal, where my partner has recently accepted a position.
I've called myself TheNocturnalDevGypsy since 2001 because it perfectly fits my work life: I've spent countless late nights freelancing on projects, whether building company websites or helping with college theses/capstones. Also, my studies and career have taken me from city to city and across countries, keeping life fresh, unpredictable and full of change, but I've always adapted wherever I go.
This webspace is my creative playground: a place to showcase my work, experiment with ideas, and store pieces of my technical and academe journey since January 2001. There's no strict theme here; it's more like a living folder that reflects my current mindset. Compiling my portfolio, testing new concepts, and regularly updating the site keeps my fingers and brain fast and healthy.
Hope you like it; I made it with a lot of + !

What I do
Project and Product Management
I plan, run, and ship complex work: from sprint planning and backlog grooming to infrastructure rollouts and post-deployment support; keeping delivery aligned with budget, timeline, and actual business needs.
Full-Stack and Infrastructure
I design and ship practical solutions end to end: front-end (Bootstrap, responsive UI/UX), backend (PHP, Node.js, SQL), and the infrastructure behind it (cloud, domains, migration, monitoring, access control).
Teaching, Documentation and Mentorship
I turn complex tech into something people can actually use: through curriculum design, thesis advising, internal playbooks, BRDs, user guides, onboarding docs, and live mentoring for devs and non-technical teams.
Branding and Content
I help early teams look credible fast: brand assets, social media graphics, pitch decks, basic site/landing polish, and lightweight UX so clients, investors, and users actually take you seriously.
